Winter Maintenance Tips for RVs and Trucks

Cold weather can be tough on RVs and trucks if they aren’t properly prepared.
Simple winter maintenance helps prevent breakdowns, protects key components, and keeps your vehicle reliable all season.

1. Check the Battery

Cold temperatures reduce battery performance.
Test the battery, clean the terminals, and replace it if it’s weak before winter starts.

2. Use the Right Engine Fluids

Switch to winter-grade engine oil if recommended.
Check antifreeze levels to prevent freezing and engine damage.

3. Inspect Tires and Tire Pressure

Cold air lowers tire pressure.
Make sure tires have enough tread and consider winter or all-terrain tires for better traction.

4. Protect RV Water Systems

For RVs, drain water lines and tanks if the vehicle won’t be used.
Use RV antifreeze to prevent pipes from freezing and cracking.

5. Check Brakes and Lights

Snow and ice reduce visibility and stopping distance.
Make sure brake systems work properly and all exterior lights are clean and functional.

6. Seal Doors and Windows

Inspect seals around doors and windows.
Replacing worn seals helps keep cold air out and improves heating efficiency.

7. Keep an Emergency Kit

Carry basics like blankets, gloves, a flashlight, jumper cables, and windshield washer fluid rated for freezing temperatures.
